Rice Distribution 2012 – A Brief Report

Monsoon floods in Pakistan have killed 455 people over the past five weeks and affected more than five million, according to the latest figures from the government’s disaster relief agency.

Pakistan suffered devastating floods in the past two years, including the worst in its history in 2010 when catastrophic inundations across the country killed almost 1,800 people and affected 21 million.

As in the previous two years, most of those hit by the latest floods were in Sindh province, where the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said more than three million have been affected, with 890,000 in Punjab and nearly a million in Balochistan. More than 260,000 people around the country have sought shelter in relief camps since early September, though this figure is down from the 290,000 reported by NDMA two and a half weeks ago. The data published by NDMA said more than 1.1 million acres of crops were affected by the floods.

With the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Taiwan via Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation (Taiwan), Al-Mustafa Welfare Society distributed 100 Tons of Rice among ten thousand victims of Flood that badly hit Pakistan throughout the country during the year 2010. That distribution took place at all the provinces of Pakistan including Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

As a result of that satisfactory distribution, The Government of Taiwan sent 400 Tons of Rice for the distribution among 40,000 Rain Storm and Flood affected people of Sindh.

The Rice in donation reached Karachi Port on 18th of March, 2012. The consignment was cleared on 6th of April 2012. While the clearance of consignment, the bags of 10 KG were ready for repacking with our message printed on them. It took two weeks for repacking of all 40,000 bags.
The distribution started on 27th of April from Mirpurkhas and it has almost completed on 20th of June, 2012. On behalf of Government of Taiwan and Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation (Taiwan), Al-Mustafa Welfare Society did this whole distribution which was monitored by Rotary International.
